Professional Growth Resolutions Linky

Hey guys, happy Saturday!!!

Today is the day to discuss professional growth resolutions.

I completed my Master's degree in Elementary Education in August 2010.

I recently completed my Ed.S in Elementary Education in August 2012. Whoo-Whoo!!!

That reminds me, I should be receiving my diploma in a matter of days!!!

To tell you the truth, I think that I am kind of burnt out as far as school

is concerned, and I don't know what I'll do if I have to actually write

another required paper!!

So, I've actually decided to take a 2 year break from school, because I've never done that before.

I mean, I've been going to school since I was 5!!!!!!

Also, I feel as if the time will allow my to hone in on what area I want to be in.

I've even thought about getting a doctorate in instructional or educational technology,

because I do have a passion for it!!

Decisions, decisions, decisions!!!!!!!!!!!!

Professional Growth Resolution #1

Decide if and when I want to go back to school, and what area I want to study.

Technology and reading are my passion, so I've got to choose!!!! Aargh!!!!

Professional Growth Resolution #2

Acquire National Board certification.

Now, I know without a shadow of a doubt that this is something that I want to do.

I may even do this before I consider going back to school.

Professional Growth Resolution #3

I read the Daily Five, now I've got to get started on the CAFE book!!!

Now, with the reading program that we use, it's kind of difficult

to fully implement the Daily Five in my classroom, but I did

gather some excellent ideas from it. I hope to do the same with the CAFE book!!!

Professional Growth Resolution #4

Since I am the Technology Representative at my school, and chairperson of the

Technology Committee, I need to find some great professional memberships, as it

relates to technology. If you know of any great ones, please share!!!

Come on over and link up!!

Organization......Help Me!!!

Hey guys, how's it going!!

Can I get a whoo-whoo!!!

Two posts in two days, I'm on a roll!!

Ok, today's linky is all about organization......

.......I wish I could say I had a handle on it.

If you walked into my classroom, on the surface it truly LOOKS

as if I do!! Ahem.....the truth is....I could use some help!!

I wish I could show you a pic of this...but for my weekly papers,

I have stackable trays for everyday of the week, that is truly a big help!!

Luckily before I left 1st grade, I have organized my books, and the majority of them

are actually leveled, with a label and that has my name, and the guided reading level.

For Kindergarten, I just stick to themes and levels a, b, and c.

Now these babies have come in really handy, I absolutely love the dollar spot at Target!!!
The possibilities are endless!!!!

And of course, everyone's Pinterest project!! I can't tell you how helpful this has been!!!
I don't have to fumble around for everything!!

Now......onto my Resolutions for organization!!!

Now before you look at the next picture, I want you to zoom in on that bookcase behind my intervention table.

Now this is a pic before school started. In this picture, it has copies, and their agendas and such on it.

I wish you could see it now.....or maybe not.....

It it piled with books, small group activities for reading and math,

extra copies, homework, decodable readers, you name it, it's on there!!

I have got to get that thing cleared off!!!!

My goal is to clean it off, and then put meaningful things on it,

which will hopefully leave less room for clutter!!!

Another resolution that I have is to put even more time into my writer's workshop.

I've done a really great job, I'm particularly proud of myself, but after January, it's time to dig in!!

I saw this awesome idea on my friend Erica's blog, Sprinkles to Kindergarten

I have this exact organization trays, and when I moved to kindergarten, I didn't have any idea

of what I should do with them. They've been collecting dust. Shhhhh....

Well, voila!!!! Here you have it!!!!  It has different types of writing paper,

that is perfect for every student at whatever level of writing they are currently at.

I'm definitely doing this on that first day back!!!!! Isn't it a great idea?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Click on the picture for more information about how

Erica does writer's workshop!!!!

What are you waiting for?

Go ahead and link up, or just take a peek to get some great ideas!!!

New Year's Resolutions Linky! Technology

Hey guys, how's it going?

I don't know about you, but it seems as if December has flown by,
and I can't seem to catch my breath!!

Whew!!! I've totally got to get back into the groove of things!!

I'm linking up with Kathleen over at Growing Kinders for a linky party!!

Today's theme is technology.

I'm so lucky to have a lot of technology in my classroom.
Sometimes, it is so much, and it can be overwhelming if you're not careful.

Technology is only as good as the person who incorporates it into the classroom.
You actually have to use it!! I can't tell you how many people I know with technology
and they just ignore it!!!!

Anywhoo, I'm off my soapbox for now.

I absolutely love my interactive whiteboard, which I have through Promethean.
I use it for everything!!! Now, you do have to take the time to create things for it,
but it is definitely worth the effort!!!

One of my resolutions for the Promethean board is to get back to creating things for it. I made reading flipcharts when I was in 1st grade, and then when I moved to Kindergarten, I had to make some more, and I think I just got burnt out with it, and I didn't want to create a flippin thing for it!!
Hehehe.....I'm all better now!

I also like to use it for test practice, because standardized tests and kindergarteners is a funny thing!!

I've also found that it is good to make them interactive, and that's something that I am currently working on, because it makes no sense it is something that the teacher is constantly controlling.
That's no fun!!!

On some of my flipcharts, I have objects that bounce back to their original place if
the student's choose the wrong answer. They absolutely love it!!

I am fortunate to have 2 iPad's and 9 iPod's in my classroom, some of which I've won by submitting 2 grants. It is really awesome, and my kids absolutely love it!!

I also love to use the iPad during small group, because that was I don't have to keep up with a bunch
of flash cards that I need to introduce or review a skill.

Now that they are incorporated into my classroom, my goal is to find some new apps, because they can get bored with the same ones over and over. So, please share any new ones that you have!!!

Also, if you have a great way to manage them in your classroom, please share!!!!!

Hopefully I can get back in the saddle with blogging, cause I truly miss it!!
Talk to you later!!

Oodles of Tech Tips Tuesday: ABCYA

Hey guys, how's it going?

This week is unit benchmark testing in Kindergarten.......

umhmmm......you know exactly what I mean!!

Can't you imagine how fun it is to give Kinders standardized tests?!?!?!?!

Ha!!

Anyways, I've been using ABCYa.com for awhile in my classroom,

but it was only recently that I realized that everyone didn't know about it.

I have a couple of their apps on my iPad's and iPod's, but I had to pay for those.

They have the same games and more on their website for FREE!!!!!!

I love it because it has the content divided by grade level, which makes it a lot easier.

Once you enter your grade level, it is further broken down by letters or numbers.

This website is great for computer centers, or for use at the whiteboard.

Check it out!!!

Oodles of Tech Tips Tuesday: Monkey Math

Hey guys, how's it going?

I know that there are several of you who are already out
for Thanksgiving break.

I wish I could be counted among you!

Due to some rearranging of our school calendar, we had to go to school on
Monday and Tuesday of this week.

Sigh..............so used to being off the entire week!

Anywho!

For those of you who have iPad's and ipod's in your classroom,
you should seriously check out Monkey MathSchool Sunshine!

It is seriously awesome, it covers a multitude of skills that kindergarteners need to know.
It is also great for advanced pre-schoolers, and as a review for first graders. Check it out!

I completed my December Morning Work packet, because since today is the last day of
work this week, I plan to totally enjoy my vacation!!

Enjoy your break, don't eat too much!!! (Yeah, right!!!)

Don't worry, pretty soon you'll be subjected to a really serious photo dump!

Anywho, we've moved on from numbers 0-5, but of course I have a few friends
who need some extra practice with recognition and writing.

So, I created a roll and cover, along with a roll and record for numbers 0-10.

Click on the picture for your copy!

I also completed my winter themed literacy and math activities pack.
For once, I kind of feel ahead of the curve!!

Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere!

Hey everyone! How's it going?

This week has been ridiculously busy!!!!

I got to school on Tuesday morning, and there had been a fire in the kitchen of the lunchroom. So, no one can go into the lunchroom, so all of our kids are packed into one teeny building, and the intermediate school had to go elsewhere. Several rooms didn't have power, or only had power on one half of their room (go figure!). Well, pretty soon, all of the county maintenance men were there, the superintendent, the deputy superintendents, Alabama Power, etc......you get the picture. So, I didn't have bus duty that day, but EVERYONE ended up having duty.

And then we get the news........school will be closing at 12 noon, because they have to shut down the power on the campus!!! So imagine how much we got accomplished that day? Exactly! Especially when parents started learning about it, and checking their kids out.

So, we had to cram all of our pumpkin unit AND report card testing through the rest of the week, and let me tell ya, that was NOT fun!!!!

Sigh...............................

These great activities came from packs by Kreative in Kinder and Rhonda Baldacchino!

We didn't even get to our pumpkin counting story, but oh well, we will definitely do it next week, it'll be ok.

Oodles of Tech Tips Tuesday: Common Sense Media

Hey guys, how's it going?

How many of you are required to teach some technology to your kiddos?

Yes, our state has a technology course of study, and we are responsible for it!

Previously, we had the difficult to understand program that was used, but thankfully
that has been replaced with something else that is easy!

**Cue music**

Are you responsible for teaching technology to your students?

By the way, don't forget to enter Erin's giveaway!!

Building Number Sense

Hey, hey everyone!! How's it going?!?!?!?

As primary teachers, we know all about building number sense and number recognition!
It can be like pulling teeth!!

For this quarter, we are working on numbers 0-5, writing them, recognizing them, and counting objects.

I think I have run it into the ground!!

But I'm pleased to say, that 95% of my kiddos did pretty well on the math quarterly assessment, as far as being able to count objects, recognizing numbers, and so forth.

However.....for the other 5%, we've got to work on number recognition and counting.
So, I created a simple roll & cover.

For my kiddos who are working on number recognition, I give the a die that has the numbers written on it.
It's really simple for them to match the numbers.

For students who may need more practice with counting, I give them a die that has dots, so they can get used to that 1:1 correspondence that I need for them to have!!!!

Oh, I also included a roll and color version, for independent use.
