Earth Day Freebie

Hey guys, how's it going?

We are still in insect land this week, but I realized that Earth Day is right around the corner!

My kiddos love emergent readers, and I'm sure that your kiddos do as well.

I remembered that I created this little reader for Earth Day.

What other great finds have you come across for Earth Day?

Insects & Early Dismissal

Hey guys, how's it going?

There is a threat of some really severe storms today, so you know what that means.....

Early Dismissal!!!!!

The plus side is that we don't have to make it up!

We have been learning about insects this week, and here is a peek at what we've been doing.

My kiddos thought that I drew this lovely ant......y'all know I traced it!!

The ant tree map and labeling came from Erica Bohrer, I believe that they were freebies on her blog.

This lovely labeling came from Vickie Plant's Spring Sequencing pack

We're also reading plenty of books on insects, such as....

Next week, we'll continue our unit on insects by beginning our study of.....

Talk to you later!

DIBELS & that dreaded nonsense word.......

Hey guys, how's it going?

We are learning about insects this week, and I hope to share pictures of that later this week.

In our PLC meeting this morning, we discussed that DIBELS would be coming up

soon (blah), and while we thought that it might be going away,

it looks like it could be here to stay for a bit more (aaaarrrrgggghhhh!).

So for Nonsense Word Fluency (NWF), not only do we want 25 sounds, we want them to be able to

also blend and read 8 words.

For some of my kiddos, that's easy peasy!!!

For some others, they look at the test with horror!

Especially since we're confusing 'e' for 'i' (y'all know how us southerners are!).

So, I got some practice cards together, hoping to ease the anxiety while they practice.

There's also a recording sheet, in case you want to make it a center.

Place Value & Addition

Hey guys, how's it going?

In addition to all of the fun themed stuff that we've been doing,

we do like to include math!!!!

We've been working really hard at place value, addition and decomposing numbers.

We have this program called

 What's My Place? What's My Value? (WMP?WMV? for short.......no, really, I'm serious!)

These are the pieces of it. I like to jumble it all around, and tell my kiddos that

while we were sleeping (out to lunch, at P.E., etc.), they all went out

and had a party! Now, it's our job to help them to get back home!!

I also have this part right beside the board. The first picture is the top half,

and the second picture is the bottom half.

I let the kids put each section in the right place, and they have to prove

how they know they are right.

We then complete the board together.

At this point in the year, they are getting pretty good at it.

I modify the board part throughout the year sometimes.

I recently put the expanded form section, but we talk about

decomposing numbers, and sometimes it might say +1 or -1, before or after, etc.

Really, it's whatever you need to work on!

This is what it looks like when it is completed!

We have also been working on addition, number bonds, making numbers til our brains and

fingers are numb!!! I came across a great freebie by Rowdy in Room 300, and let me tell you,

it has been a great help to me!! My students love to do this!

Alright guys, let me ask you a question....do you still have kiddos that just seem

to have a difficult time with math, I mean as far as understanding number & quantity relationships,

connecting counting to cardinality, etc.

I'm just about to pull my hair out!!

I created these fun, and free (who doesn't love free) little math cards, to go with our farm week.

I created them for numbers 1-20.

April Currently

Hey guys, how's it going?

I'm linking up with Farley again for this month's currently!

Of course I'm a day late, but at least I'm not a dollar short!! Hehe....

Anyway, here we go!

Listening....I love watching Men in Black 3, I think it's the best one of the series!

Loving...it has literally been raining and cold since forever!!

I mean, I came back from the beach and I've been covered up ever since!!

However, it's supposed to be cold the rest of the week, and rainy to boot! Sigh...

Thinking...about engaging activities for my kiddos for the rest of the year. You know what I mean!

They get restless...and need so many hands-on activities, even more than usual.

I definitely want to make sure that I'm not boring them to death!

Wanting...I really, really love to read. If I could read all day, I would.....I have a wishlist a mile long!

Needing...I really should get finished with my lesson plans...that was I can have really good plans

ready.....see thinking above.

Advice...unlock your potential....I think sometimes, we spend so much time focusing on what we can't

do, what we haven't done, that we don't pay attention to what we ARE capable of doing...

we have the potential to be and do anything we want.....we just have to reach out and do it!!!

Hop on over and link up!
