I LOVE Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock on BBC!!!!!!

My car is like brand new, it has a new transmission (costly little bugger),

new engine mounts, front brakes replaced, new drive belts, you name it,

it has it!!

Thinking - I haven't done as much cleaning as I had hoped this summer......

in my defense I have a few more weeks!!

This year, in celebration of their 125th year,

Belk is doing 125 days of service, such as community service!!

Yay for us, because they came and did a few things at our school!!

They painted a lot (of course I didn't get pictures of everything!!),

and they also put together bookcases for everyone, put picnic tables together for us,

and they painted lots and lots of murals that we can put up!!

In addition to all of this going on, registration for school was going on, and the PTA was there,

and below are our beloved office staff, they are totally awesome

Talking Writing Drawing Chapter 3

Hey guys, how's it going?

I had so much going on last week,

and I didn't have a chance to post on chapter 2.

But I'm ready to go with chapter 3!!!

Chapter 3 is all about drawing.

I know, I know exactly what you're thinking!!

This is supposed to be about writing!!!

Remember, the book is titled Talking, Drawing, & Writing.

I think that sometimes we get so focused on the writing part,

that we totally forget about everything else.

A lot of times, especially as children enter Kindergarten, drawing is the only thing

that they can do, the only way that they can express themselves.

I'm reminded of a time that I sat in with the my student's during an extra art class.

Our art teacher, by the way, is totally awesome!!

During that 30 minute period, every child was an artist,

simply because of the way that she teaches.

It's important that my students feel the same way about writing,

that they are all writers.

To begin this way of thinking, it is important that we not only support

our students as writers, but in drawing as well.

I just feel that sometimes writing isn't a priority in Kindergarten,

and we don't have enough time to truly devote to it!

It makes me so upset because I know how important it is,

especially as they go on to 1st and 2nd grades.

What are your thoughts?

I hope to see you there!!!!

Just in Case Linky Party

Hey guys, how's it going?

I'm linking up with Jennifer over at First Grade Blue Skies for a Linky Party!!!!

Ok,  here we go!!

iPad Cases

I like to use my apple rolly case in the summer and when I go to conferences, and PD,

because the other cases are waaaaayyyyyy too heavy!!!

However, when it's school mode, it's straight Otterboxes,

 because Kindergarteners have loose grips!!

I like the pink and grey one the best!!!!

Phone Cases

Ok, this Tory Burch case is my favorite!!! It's kinda broken, I mean,

it's taken a few hits!!! Now, I only pull it out

when I want to be cute!!

This is my go-to case, the one that I bought

when I first got the phone.

It's still kicking, no bruises, scratches or cracks anywhere!!!

Now this is my functional case, especially when I don't want to take a purse!!

It's made by Incipio, and it's their Stow-away case.

The back opens up, and you can put your license and cards in there!!!!

Isn't that so cool?!?!?!?!

It's also a stand!!!!

Oh, I almost forgot about these!!!

On the left is my Vera Bradley iPad case, and the right is my case for my Nook.

Can you tell I love Vera Bradley, I mean, look what is currently on my couch!!

How many Vera patterns can you find?!?!?

Last, but not least, here is my rubber thingy on my Nook, lol.

Whew, I didn't realize that I had to many cases!!!

Come on over and link up!!!

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to PD I go!!

Hey guys, how's it going?

By the time you read this, I'll already be sitting in my

first professional development session of the summer!!!

My school district adopted a new reading series for the upcoming year,

so I am at an all day training for it.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot,

and also I get to goof off with all of my grade-level pals!!!

This is our new reading series.......

For the past 5 years, we have used Scott Foresman Reading Street, so I'm excited to see what Wonders

has to offer! So far, as I've been looking at it, I absolutely love their small group lessons,

there is a lot of material, AND, there is a lot of ideas for differentiation.

Question: For those of you without an adopted reading series, how do you choose what to teach?

For those of you with one, which one do you have, do you like it,

and how much do you have to tweak/supplement it?

Also, I finally updated my back to school pack, check it out!!

I'll let you know how the PD went.

Talk to you later!!!

Talking Drawing Writing Chapter 1

Hey guys, how's it going?

As I told you earlier, I'm reading a book along with

Jennifer from Teaching with Grace.

Writing is an area that I have always wanted to learn more about,

because I feel that as a teacher, it is my weakest area.

I get better and better each year, but there is still so much to learn!!

As I was reading chapter 1, I was intrigued into how writer's workshop begins.

Talking!!! I know that we talk a lot, for modeling purposes, but it had never dawned on

me that we should have the first several days of writer's workshop like this.

Previous models that I have seen always talk about modeling, and then

getting that paper and pencil into their hands!!

It is important that we begin by sharing with students that they have stories to tell,

and that these stories open up many possibilities for writing!!!

As primary teachers, we know that storytelling is important,

and it is important that we model this for students, by telling them our stories.

So here's what I learned from the 1st chapter in a nutshell:

1.  Begin with oral stories 1st, for the first several days of school.

2.  We as teachers are storytellers also!

3.  Allow all of the children to tell oral stories about themselves, and at the same time,

guiding them and modeling.

Currently in June!

Hey guys, what's up?!?!

I'm linking up with Farley again for this month's Currently!!

Ok, here we go!!!

Listening - Just tv noise......it's Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta......I must admit, sometimes I like to

see the drama.  Once I finish this post, I'll find a good movie on Netflix!!

Loving - I love the fact that summer is here, and like I said, I mean to enjoy it this time.

It's so easy to get caught up into going here, and going there, and before you

know it, summer's over, and it's time to go back to work!!

Thinking - Continuing from #2, I love the fact that TPT has allowed me to be able to quit

my 2nd job, which is one reason that I was never able to fully

enjoy my summer vacation. It was hard, because I have worked there

for 11 years, since I was a freshman in college.

But I have enjoyed finding my perfect balance!!

Wanting - Ok, I have what everyone has......that guest bedroom that doubles as an office and

workspace as well.  I really need to clean up and organize this space, in a way that works for

me. I've been debating about whether or not I should make it one or the other.

Needing - Yeah, I need to clean up that 2nd room, cause it's truly horrible!!!!

I would show you a picture, but it's quite scary!! Oh, did I mention,

it's also that extra storage area!! Argh!!!!!!!!

3 Vacay Essentials - Gotta have that phone, my nook, because I love to read, and my sunscreen!!

I won't burn and turn red, but I would definitely get very dark!!!!!

Come on over and link up!
