Keeping up with Student Data

Hey guys, how's it going?

I had a co-worker who kept thinking it was hump day,

and then she said, "Wait, it's better than hump day!!"

It's Friday-eve!! Can I get a wha-wha????

In an earlier post, I talked about keeping up with student

data differently, in this post here.

Today I want to talk about another way that I keep up with data.

Progress reports have already gone home for the other grades,

so that means in a few weeks report card testing will really ramp up

for Kindergarten!!

I'm a little behind this year, but I knew that I had to get my assessment binder together,

so that I can be organized!!!

I start by getting a pretty big binder, something like 2 1/2" or more.

I buy these tabs in the school supply section at Wal-Mart,

I think they're by Avery.

It helps me to keep assessment in ABC order, and it's quick to find that way as well.

So, behind these tabs I keep a few things.......

A sheet for keeping track of letter recognition,

I copy it front and back, capital and lowercase.

I also keep their math and reading report card assessments in there as well.

And they all fit!!

If you could use the ABC recording sheet, click on the picture below!!

A Peek at my Week Linky!!!

Hey guys and dolls,

how's it going?

I'm linking up with Deedee again for a peek at my week!!

Our reading series is Wonders by McGraw-Hill, so there's no freedom there!!! :-)

Also, we have to start doing small group plans, so here they are!!

I have GOT to get writer's workshop going, I can't seem to fit it in!!!

I've also had a hard time fitting in science/social studies, but I am determined to do it this week!!

I'm am using Vickie Plant's Apples Aplenty, and Kaci Hoffer's Applicious Unit!!

I'm also using Vickie's You Better Shape Up! for math this week!!

Come on over and link up!!!

Letter Recognition & a Freebie!!!

Hey guys, how's it going?

No, it's no longer hump day, lol,

but as a sub at our school says, it's Friday-eve!!!!

Whoo-whoo!!!!

Anyways,  our new reading series doesn't have any real

assessments until after the 3rd week of the program.

Of course, I couldn't wait that long, and neither could my grade level!!!

So, we used my beginning of kindergarten assessment.....

.....and let me tell you, it was quite scary!!!!

I can't believe how many of my kiddos do not know their letters!!

I mean most of them do not know probably like 85% of their letters!!!

Eeeeekkkkk!!!!!!!!

So, of course they can't write them either......

Sigh.......I created some roll & records, and we are definitely on the tracing pages!!!!

If you're a fan of my Facebook page....you can find both of them under the fan freebies tab!!!

And then just do what the sign says!!!!!

I'm out with my grade level now having Mexican.....

and I know every teacher knows what that means!!!

Talk to you guys later!!!!!

Digital Student Portfolios with Evernote

Hey guys, how's it going?

I know you're probably tired of hearing it, but I absolutely

love that commercial with the camel.....

Guess what day it is????  Guess what day it is?!?!?!?!

It's hump day, whoo-whoo!!!!!

It makes me laugh uncontrollably!!!!

Anywho, I've been thinking about ways to keep up with student portfolios,

along with anecdotal notes, whatever I would need for a conference, IEP Meeting, PST, etc.

And I think I have discovered a way to do that with Evernote!!

Awhile ago, I wrote about Evernote, you can find that post here.

This would be helpful in classes that have access to an iPad.

Anywho, Evernote is more than just a note-taking app, it can do so much more!!

Normally, when I write notes, I stay under the notes tab.

I found that you can also set up separate notebooks as well.

So, there are two ways that this can be done!!

Choice 1

Create a separate notebook for each student.

Then, in each student's notebook, you can create a separate note for basically

anything that you can think about.

Choice 2

Create 1 notebook.

Then create a note page for every student.

If you use this way, you would use one note for each child,

placing all of the information that you need in that note.

I love them both, because you can also take pictures of whatever you need,

and place it in the note as well.

I'm torn on which one I should choose!!!!!

Which way do you like the best?

Oh, in other news, we have a winner for the quietest classroom pencil sharpener!!!

Congratulations Evette!!!!!!!

A Peek at my Week!!!!

Hey guys and dolls, how's it going?

For the first time ever, I'm linking up with Deedee over

a Peek at my Week linky!!!

FYI, she has an awesome lesson plan template that

you can get on her fan freebie page on FB!!!!

Go on over and check it out!!

Ok, this is definitely NOT what my lesson plans looked like last year,

but I'm trying to find a better way to plan.

At my school, people usually get together and write lesson plans,

and then send them out to the grade levels.

I don't want to do it that way, because then you tend to just get it

and not even look at what you're supposed to be doing!!!

Anywho.......here we go!!

Our reading series has 3 weeks of Start Smart, and there really isn't a small group time.

It's designed to use this time to teach procedures and routines,

so I've been teaching center procedures during this time.

And of course, trying to meet a little bit in small group anyway!!!

But it's not happening!!! Ah, well..........

The next 2 slides contain my literacy & math center activities.

Some of the literacy centers are blank, because I haven't taught them as of yet.

These are the centers that we're going to be learning in the coming weeks.

We are an AMSTI (Alabama Math Science Technology Initiative) school,

and we use Investigations for math.

A lof of my math workshop, which is what they call it, is chosen for me,

but I do have to add in order to cover skills that they do

not teach, such as number recognition and writing.

Yep, go figure!!

Also, you have one day left to enter my pencil sharpener giveaway!!!
