Hey guys, how's it going?
School is kinda going like a
well-oiled machine, and every week
it seems as if we're adding more and more parts
to the machine.
Well, we've started math journals, and
I've always done them, but for the life of me I couldn't remember
what I did last year!! Go figure!!
So, I decided to complete my own!!
So, this is how my math journaling goes:
Earlier in the year, we only do math journals twice, maybe 3 times a week.
As the year progresses, and they get faster at doing things,
I'll add a day a week, and eventually it'll be everyday.
Normally, I use a spiral-bound notebook, but this year
the school bought everyone composition notebooks,
which are not my fave, but hey, it's free,
so that's what we're using!!
My students need some extra practice with number sense, because once we
move on to harder concepts, whew!!
Here are some of the journal entries....
Now, FYI, don't pin this, lol!!!
There are 40 math journal activities, so if you do them everyday,
it'll last you 2 months. If not, it'll last even longer.

Congratulations Heidi & Susan!!!!
I have a morning math meeting (calendar time) and progress into creating their own calendar journal. We then work through a math series that needs a little (no, a lot!) of help to get us where Common Core is taking us. Love your journals! Looks like what I've been searching for!! :)

DeleteI would LOVE to win these! We are using Everyday Math and it's just not cutting it. I like to start the math block with a math warm up activity (we have been using some of the Everyday Math games, like Give the Next Number and so on). At my old school I had a math program that had a great take-home game at the end of each unit for the kiddos to play with their parents after learning it in class, this is something I really want to make at my new school too! Love the journals Angela!

Every day we do math warm ups with visual clusters (subitizing) and skip counting (1's, 5's, 10's). We also use Cuisenaire Rods daily and are finally starting ten frames! Your math journals look great (and something my kiddos could certainly use)!

I wish I could say the same about being a well oiled machine ~ good for you! The calendar is a big part of our math day. We have a math journal and a daily math lesson. This would be so helpful in class.

I do small groups with NUMBERS math stations, calendar, whole group, partner games, and problem solving. :) This product looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI teach the Math lesson for the day as a whole group. Then the students practice the skills at the math centers, while I call a smaller group to work on other concepts! Would love to win!

We do math journals every day. The class is divided into three groups according to their abilities, and gets a task card to work on. They write their thinking in their journals and the teacher conference with individual kids afterwards. cheriemae@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI purchased your Fall Kindergarten Math Journal pack but I am unable to print it. It prints out with the words blacked out.
Thank you for your help.
